Home winemakers Susan and Steve Merrill were often asked by people to sell their wine.  Other people, also, enjoyed making wine at home; so Susan and Steve decided to blend the two together and opened Superior Coast Winery, "The Store with the Purple Door".

Opened during the summer of 2005, Superior Coast Winery is located in part of the original Woolworth's building in downtown Sault Ste Marie, MI.  The mirrors that were behind the lunch counter still remain with their original woodwork.  Susan's interior design background helped to bring the historic space into the 21st century.

Upon finding a Tuscan mural she decided to incorporate Italian wine country with the original mahogany doors and woodwork.  Wood floors and a marble tasting bar add to the modern Tuscan look.  It's the perfect place to spend some time tasting and learning about wine.
